As of July of this year, the modifications made to the Machu Picchu Visits Regulations have been made stricter, as detailed below.
Entry schedule: the first turn to enter the citadel is from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm. Passengers who enter until the first shift closes may stay at Machu Picchu for 4 hours. If a passenger had an entry ticket for the first shift and arrived after noon, his ticket would be invalidated and he wouldn’t be able to enter the citadel.
Time of permanence: the maximum time is 4 hours, it is up to the passengers if they stay during that whole period or leave the citadel early. In order to control that no passenger exceeds the visiting time, the park rangers are always in communication and could, if necessary, request a passenger’s entry ticket to corroborate their time of entry.
Circuits: the three circuits are operating and range from the most demanding (Route 1) to the mildest (Route 3). Guides are instructed to use Route 1, unless the physical condition of a passenger requires using one of the other two lighter routes. In some cases, guides may let passengers who are not suitable for Route 1 continue on their own -after the initial explanation- and meet up with them later in the Temple of the Three Windows area.
Re-entry: it is forbidden to re-enter Machu Picchu; a passenger will only be allowed to return if he has asked the park ranger to exit in order to use the bathroom. It is advisable, before entering, to mention the possibility of needing to use the bathroom to the controllers (this option could require presenting a medical certificate).
At the end of the tour: upon arrival at the Temple of the Condor, the Ministry of Culture staff will direct the passengers to the exit door. There will be no possibility of return after this. If the passengers have not completed their 4 hours inside the citadel and cross the exit, they will not be able to enter Machu Picchu again.
We appreciate that you take this information into account to keep your passengers up to date and avoid any type of inconvenience.
